FREDDY’S OPENS THIRD WICHITA LOCATION AT PLAZZIO
Popular Hometown Steakburger Franchise
Opens Newest Store in Front of East side Warren Theater
WICHITA, Kan. – July 25, 2007 – Freddy’s Frozen Custard, a locally-owned franchise concept featuring steakburgers and frozen custard, has opened the doors to the public at its third Wichita location. Situated in front of the Warren Theater in the Plazzio retail and entertainment complex at 13th Street & Greenwich Road, the 3,650- square-foot restaurant is the fifth company-owned store and 13th Freddy’s location overall for the organization, said Freddy’s president, Bill Simon.
“We feel that this high-traffic, high-visibility location at the Plazzio is a perfect spot for Freddy’s as we continue to grow,” Simon said. “We’re thrilled to be better able to serve our east side and Andover customers overall and, specifically, the many moviegoers and other entertainment seekers who visit the development. Our great-tasting food and cool custard treats are a fast, convenient option for people at lunch or dinner or before or after a movie or bowling.”
Owned by Scott Redler and Randy, Freddy and Bill Simon, Freddy’s opened its first Wichita location on west 21st Street in 2002, offering its now-loyal customers cooked-to-order steakburgers, Chicago dogs, and other savory items along with its signature desserts made from fresh frozen custard. Seven months later, they opened a second location on north Rock Road. In addition to the three locations in Wichita, Freddy’s also has company-owned stores in El Dorado, Kan. and Tulsa, Okla., and eight franchise locations in Hutchinson, Kan.; Phoenix; San Antonio; and Oklahoma City, Enid, Edmond and Moore, Okla. The total number of stores in the system is now thirteen. Freddy’s company stores that were open at least 18 months at the beginning of 2006 have all enjoyed record sales, with cumulative growth of over 13 percent for the first half of 2007 compared with the same period in the previous year.
“2007 will prove to be our best year of growth yet, with the opening and scheduled opening of nine new stores,” Simon added. “This would represent a 90 percent unit growth over 2006, and our inquiries into and sales of new franchises are extremely vibrant.”
Additional Freddy’s stores are scheduled to open in Oklahoma City and Topeka, Kan., as well as four stores in the San Antonio area during the remainder of this year.
Ben Hesse, who has been an employee of Freddy’s for 3½ years, is the general manager of the new Plazzio location. Winter Architects was the project architect for Freddy’s. J.P. Weigand & Sons is the exclusive broker for the development, and Accel Construction was the general contractor.
